VERNON TO FINISH 2018 STRONG WITH NEW PARTNERS
2018 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia
Michelin Junior driver Jimmy Vernon has secured new partners for the remaining two rounds of the Porsche Michelin GT3 Cup Challenge Australia series in his bid for a strong finish to the 2018 season.
The 21-year-old Sydney-based driver, who was announced as part of Porsche’s driver development programme at the start of 2018, signed with McElrea Racing in a bid to continue climbing the motorsport ladder.

Vernon has fought to keep his season on track, with numerous silent supporters backing the young Porsche driver for the majority of the GT3 Cup Challenge season.
After announcing an early end to his 2018 racing campaign due to sponsorship issues during the mid-season break, a last-minute partnership with Platinum Nightclub and Bondi Carpets allowed Vernon’s season to continue at round four at Queensland Raceway.
Since round four, Vernon has secured partnerships with Bold Living and The Triffid Bar and Venue while retaining the support of Commercial Interior Projects, Platinum Nightclub and Bondi Carpets for the final two rounds of the season.
“I’m thrilled to finish the season with the support of so many tremendous brands,” said Vernon.
“2018 has certainly been an uphill battle, but thankfully I have had a strong support group around me that has kept me on track.
“I can’t wait to jump into the last two rounds of the series and represent my fantastic new and existing partners… without them none of this would even be possible.
“I have been so grateful to have had such a strong team behind me, from my silent supporters all the way through to my sponsors. If someone walked up to me a few years ago and told me that one day I would be racing a Porsche, I wouldn’t have believed them. To be at the point now where I can compete in the entire championship is a credit to everyone who has pushed me along and jumped on for the ride.”
Vernon currently sits 4th in the Pro class championship and is looking to continue the strong momentum that has been building throughout the year when the series returns to Winton Motor Raceway on the 31st of August.
